ON THE ROAD
ON THE ROAD journeys across rural Colorado meeting people where they are, experiencing first-hand the relationships we hold with our places and what makes them so – cherished landscapes, tangled histories, defining industries, and most of all, people.
In this work, we come to know educators & entrepreneurs, farmers & ranchers, funders & frontline workers, outdoor advocates & cultural stewards. In their stories, we see a reflection of meaningful work and discover a truer portrait of the places we call home.
In partnership with regional and statewide economic development organizations, community foundations, the philanthropy community and media partners, ON THE ROAD explores the personal narratives of real people rolling up their sleeves and doing the foundational, often unseen work essential to the well-being of their Colorado communities.
History
ON THE ROAD emerged from a 2021 Wright Listening Tour which led us to a host of rural Colorado communities where we explored questions around culture, meaningful work, our connections to place, and what matters to us as communities.
In 2022, ON THE ROAD set out to visit Colorado’s Upper Arkansas, Yampa and Grand Valleys. Focusing on regional outdoor recreation and agricultural sectors, we learned through shared personal stories just how essential of a role these two industry sectors play in shaping a sense of identity within rural communities. An identity rooted in common understandings, connection to land and water, and inclusive of unique cultural values and traditions.
ON THE ROAD will visit the San Luis Valley in the fall of 2023 for its next series of Campfire Conversations.
